The first edition was the only edition published in folio format. This was the most popular surgical text of the 17th century " (Garrison/M.). "Johannes Schultes, city physican of Ulm and one of the leading German surgeons of his day, invented many new surgical devices and bandages. This comprehensive catalogue of all known surgical instruments and procedures of the period was published after his death by his nephew Johannes Schultes" (Norman). - Coppers showing chirurgical instruments as well as illustrations of bandages etc. - Partly unevenly browned and foxed, with slight waterstains, here and there minor worming in the gutter, flying endpaper and title. One corner of binding bumped, spine with 2 tears, thongs removed.
