"Images of the sun became emulations of the sun, a fire dance on the retina and a choreography of fire on canvas. I ignited the solvents that elsewise would have dried to an existence of cozy contemplation, and within seconds I created images on the line between destruction and survival – the "Feuerblumen“ (Fire Flowers). To me they are a liberation from the rules of optical utility and geometry and a turn to organic forms that emerged from the melting process." (Otto Piene)
