Much like his father - an accomplished alpinist who completed numerous first ascents - Edward Harrison Compton was passionate about the alpine landscape and the stunning, ever-changing natural beauty of the mountains. In the 1930s, Compton mostly traveled to the Loisach Valley and the Werdenfelser Land, where the Zugspitzbahn train had provided easy access to the peak of the Zugspitze mountain since 1930. The Zugspitzplatt plateau offers a breathtaking view over the imposing snow-covered mountain ranges lined up one after another.
