Signed and dated lower right. Titled on the reverse. Once more signed, inscribed and with the address on the stretcher. 95 : 67,5 cm (37,4 : 26,5 in). After training as a decoration painter, Karl Otto Hy started his education in fine art at the Wiesbaden School for the Applied Arts in 1924. In 1928-29, Hy studied at the Mainz School for the Applied Arts, where he devoted himself to printmaking and other media. From 1930 he freelanced as an artist and showed work at numerous exhibitions. In 1980 he was represented with work alongside Alois Erbach, Conrad Felixmüller and Alexei von Jawlensky at the important exhibition “Wiesbadener Künstler aus 3 Generationen” [“Three Generations of Wiesbaden Artists”]. Known for his landscapes, still lifes and portraits, Karl Otto Hy was also active as a decorative painter. [KD]

Good overall impression. Edges partially minimally rubbed. Stretcher pushing softly through on the upper centre, there with minor dents. Minimally rubbed, partially with tiny superficial colour losses. The part of the hands with a soft scratch mark. The part of the face, the neck and the hands with overpaintings, probably by the artist himself.
