Mit Atelierleiste. In den Randbereichen (v.a. rechte Ecken und Unterrand) leicht braunfleckig, mit kleineren Bereibungen und gebräunten Knitterspuren. Linke untere Ecke mit geringfügigem Wasserfleck.
Gouache on cardboard, mounted on canvas.
Signed lower left. Signed once more, dated '6.XI.1956' and inscribed '2' on the reverse. 44,5 : 49,5 cm (17,5 : 19,4 in). 'While I was mixing distemper for my little boy in summer 1952, I discovered my rapid painting technique as if by chance: first glue on the paper, then gouache stirred in and there was a finished picture [...] The step from cardboard (gouache) to canvas was the inevitable result. Thus in winter 1952/53 I found the technique and conception which would forthwith determine my handling [...]’ (quoted in: H. Zimmermann, in: Exhibition cat.
