The coloured views were printed from three plates, and finished by hand." - First edition. - Rare and complete work with magnificent views of Java on plates, one of the most beautiful 19th century Dutch works with views. After drawings by the painter Abram Salm (1801-1876), who spend part of his life on Java, lithographed by Johan Conrad Greive (1837-1891). - The nice views show mainly landscapes of the Indonesian island, among them the volcanoes Semeru and Bromo, the bay of Srigonjo, the river Bengawan Solo, the Tenger Mountains, the road to (Buitenzorg) et al. Each with a small mounted label indicating the publisher in lower right corner. - All in all somewhat foxed, 1 plate with small marginal tear (not affecting the image). - Fine and rare series with views.
