Very nice and outmostly lavishly made copy of this so-called pearl bible, written on virgin parchment. Contains the (almost) complete vulgate text, as it was worked out by the Sorbonne in Paris in the so-called Correctorium Sorbonicum around 1220/30. These 'Parisian norm bibels' represent an entirely new book type, that is characteristic for the 13th century. By using an extremely small font it was possible to include the complete bible text and the Hieronymus prologues in a single volume pocket edition. - The manuscript ends with chapter 10 of the Apocalypse, the last ll. with chapters 11-22 are lacking. Also lacking 1 l. with chapters 24-27 by Sirach. Otherwise complete work. - Foliation by a somewhat later hand, just like several clean marginalia and pointers. - Ca. first 10 ll. browned, slightly stained in places, else clean copy. The first l. with mended marginal tear-off (no loss of printed matter, affecting verso of extensions), 2 ll. with small tear, head margin somewhat cropped close. Front inner joint detached, binding minimally stained. All in all well-preserved 13th century manuscript, title with ownership entry of the Jesuite college in Montauban. Ex-libris.
Very nice and outmostly lavishly made manuscript on virgin parchment. 309 ll. Size of sheet 165 : 120 mm. Text area 112 : 80 mm. 2 columns. 50-56 lines. Slugged and rubricated. Written in dark brown ink in diminutive Gothic pearl, heightenings in red, chapter count and column titles in blue and red. With ca. 120 large floral initials in blue and red with filigrane drawings in the inner areas and mostly with ornamental extensions into the margins and partly with floral staves, among them 2 small miniatures, also with hundreds of one- or two-lined lombards in red or blue, often extending into the margin. - 19th century vellum binding with giltstamped fillets and inside gilt border and gilt edges. The manuscript ends with chapter 10 of the Apocalypse, the last ll. with chapters 11-22 are lacking. Also lacking 1 l. with chapters 24-27 by Sirach. Otherwise complete work. - Foliation by a somewhat later hand, just as few clean marginalia and pointers. - Ca. first 10 ll. browned, slightly stained in places, else clean copy.
