Alfons Walde found the motifs that would characterize almost his entire creation in his immediate surroundings: the Tyrolian Alps with their small mountain villages and their inhabitants. Walde delivered accounts of the Tyrolians' love for their home region like no other. With his pastose stroke of the brush he soon became recognized. His persons are clearly outlined, almost a bit coarse, just as it is in the nature of the mountain farmers. His landscapes are proof of the love for nature. This is especially true for his winter landscapes, for which he had developed an own style characterized by a special treatment of snow-covered surfaces contrasted with sunshine.
