Signed and dated lower right. Verso once more signed and dated as well as with an arrow indicating the direction. Verso inscribed by a hand other than that of the artist. Unique piece. 173 x 128 x 6.5 cm (68.1 x 50.3 x 2.5 in).
A relief of the same name "Fata Morgana II“ (Honisch 900) is in possession of the Milwaukee Art Museum. The work offered here has not been mentioned in the catalog raisonné Honisch, it carries the archive's addenda number N 900A.

Accompanied by a certificate issued by the Atelier Heinz Mack, Mönchengladbach, from November 2015.

Mack began "[…] to develop objects [..] on which the light can settle immediately. He did not paint the light, instead he forces it to display itself, to participate in the making of a certain optical quality. In these light reliefs the light seems clustered, concentrated, increased, heightened, intensified, in short: they possess a fascination else imperceptible. This is true for both artifical and natural light. Mack's sculptures brings out the light's character and not so much the illumination's quality." (Dieter Honisch, Mack.
