With the estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570b) and the hand-written registration number "A Da/Bi 27" on the reverse. On firm smooth Superbus Siehl wove paper (with the embossing). 36.7 x 51.2 cm (14.4 x 20.1 in), the full sheet.
• Claar and strong colors.
• Large-size, dynamic-expressive composition.
• Despite the strong expressionist graphic duct, Kirchner adds a tender intimacy to the lovers.

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner combines form-bound abstraction with a turn towards naturalistic elaborations, as can be increasingly in works from the mid-1930s. The combination and the amalgamation of the couple through the lines is reminiscent of depictions of the Hembus couple, whose visit to Kirchner in 1930 is documented in photographs by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.
