Watercolour, gouache and India ink.
With the estate stamp on the reverse, there with inscription "Kon. 30/68". On laid paper. 24,8 : 31,1 cm (9,7 : 12,2 in), the full sheet. From 1915 until 1920 Gabriele Münter lived in Scandinavia, at first in Stockholm, then in Copenhagen. From there she went on many short trips and excursions. It was not long before she made contact with Swedish artists so that she was able to exhibit work at group shows from time to time and even had small solo shows. In our work a coastal landscape is depicted from an unusually high vantage-point. The red and brown wooden houses so typical of Scandinavia here contrast warmly with the bare, wintery scenery. [NB]
