Warner p. 93, 1a. - Hollstein VII, 119, 51-95. - Bibl. Belgica III, G 320 notes. - Cf. Thieme/B. XIII, 530ff. - First edition of this rare work. The series was first used in 1600 as woodcuts in Grotius' Syntagma Arateorum - "De Gheyn's woodcuts - derived directly from those printed by Ratdolt in 1482 [siehe Kat.nr. ...............] - were perhaps the finest illustrations of the individual Hyginus constellations. They in turn were copied by Bayer" (Warner). - The plates are in a very decorative coloring. The background of the constellations filled in dark blue, title in upper plate margin as well as numbering in lower right have been drawn over. - Lacking the last unnumb. plate with starry sky and zodiacs. - White margins slightly stained in places, title with small mended tear, 3 plates with restored marginal tears in the lower white margin. Else well-preserved.
First edition of this celestial atlas. With 43 (of 44) coloured plates. Contemp. flex. vellum. - Lacking the final unnumb. plate depicting the celestical globe. - White margins partly slight stained, title with rebacked marginal cutout, 3 plates with restored marginal tears. Altogether fine copy.
