Der Mensch ist gut. 1919.
Offset in colors.
Dückers S I, XII B I (of D). Signed. With typographic sheet number in lower margin. One of presumably 100 copies from this edition. On machine made laid paper. 27,5 x 20 cm (10,8 x 7,8 in). Sheet: 30,1 x 24 cm (11,8 x 9,4 in).
Sheet 12 from portfolio "Ecce Homo" published by Malik-Verlag, Berlin 1922-23.
The portfolio "Ecce Homo", which comprises this sheet, is part of a large number of portfolios and graphic cycles made at that time. George Grosz alone made six portfolios and books between 1920 and 1923. In this work Grosz once more proves to be a sharp chronicler of his days. How much Grosz actually tapped the pulse of the age with his works becomes particularly obvious in the 1923 trial for "Violation of public morals ", which was filed after the portfolio "Ecce Homo" had been released.
