Hoberg Mappe IX I (of II). Each sheet signed. Each illustration monogrammed in stone. From an edition of 83 copies. On smooth creme paper. Up to 33,5 x 27 cm (13,1 x 10,6 in). Sheet: 45 x 34,3 cm (17,7 x 13,5 in).
Printed by E. Danzinger, Vienna. Loose sheets. Without imprint and original portfolio. Alfred Kubin made the drawings for this series in 1928. In a letter to Hanne Koeppel he wrote on 6 January, 1929: "I was in an almost demonic state of creation - made a series of 12 sheets - >Ali, the gray stallion, fate of a Tatar horse< that's it - You know I've been loving horses since I was a child, and again, I've also always been scared of them. - As a natural being the stallion is the epitomy of maculinity to me."
