The only lithograph in colors in Pissarro's work, Vollard convinced him to make it: "I should have preferred to do it in black and white, but it seems that color is the fashion" (from a letter to his son Lucien from 12 July, 1896, quoted after: Loys Delteil. Camille Pissarro. L´oeuvre gravé et lithographié. Catalogue Raisonné, San Francisco 1999, p.388). Frontispiecwe for the magazine "Les Temps Nouveaux", a weekly magazine (originally named "La Révolte"), founded in 1896 and published by Jean Grave, a French communist and friend of Pissarro as of 1890.
