Signed and dedicated " z[um] Andenken s[einem] l[ieben] Herbert Fiedler George Grosz 1932" lower right, inscribed "35 Ball" lower left. On smooth paper. 59,5 x 45,7 cm (23,4 x 17,9 in), size of sheet.
Grosz met the artist Herbert Fiedler (1891-1962), to whom the sheet is dedicated, in Berlin in the early 1910s. In 1912 they even shared an apartment and a studio and their friendship lasted a lifetime. Before he left for the USA in 1932, George Grosz gave his friend this sheet as keepsake. In 1934 Fiedler exiled to the Netherlands, in 1935 he and George Grosz had a show together in Laren in 1935. [EH].
