The painting "Kirakoum II“ form Vasarely's early period of creation, is a great document of the development of his optic-kinetic image concepts. The composition is already based on strictly geometric basic shapes aligned on a vertical axis, however, it is still focusedon the relation between figure and ground. Unlike it is the case with his later works, the paint is applied and structured through the usage of a spatula and a broad brush. This way the monochrome surface are brought to life. The influence of the Bauhaus becomes obvious, which the artist also referencesin his theoretic works. "It was not before 1947 that I gained true perception of 'abstraction', when I understood what the pure form and color world really meant“ (Victor Vasarely, quote: K. A. Schröder, Victor Vasarely, Munich 1992, p. 173).
