"Un importante e singolare esempio della storiografia umanistica ... Benché non si possano negare nell'opera del S. notevoli tendenze panegiristiche, bisogna riconoscere che la sua realistica obiettività lo tiene lontano dalla partigianeria di altre opere ufficiali umanistiche, mentre l'amore del dettaglio esatto e obiettivo e il senso del concreto lo avvicinano al grande Guicciardini." Das Werk wurde mehrmals nachgedruckt, zuletzt in Muratoris berühmter Sammlung. - Giovanni Simonetta (um 1430-91) stand als Geheimsekretär in Diensten Francesco Sforzas, bis er 1480 seine Stellung unter Ludovico Sforza verlor. - Da das Werk kein eindeutiges Erscheinungsjahr angibt, datieren ältere Bibliographien den Druck noch auf 1479, nach der Datumsangabe des Nachworts von F. Philelphus (S. 291 vo.). Neuere Untersuchungen legen jedoch nahe, daß das Werk in seiner vollständigen Form nicht vor 1481/1482 erschienen sein kann. "A six years' privilege for this book was granted by the Duke to the printers on 6 July, 1481 ... On this evidence the book was not completed until the early part of 1482, but the state of the type, as well as the date of Philelfus' postscript, point rather to 1480. It seems probable that it was already in hand by 1479 but that completion was delayed for some unexplained reason, possibly political." First leaf with large initial in blue and red as well as 33 large initials alternated in blue and red. 292 nn. leaves (last 2 blank), Roman type. Late 19th century calf with gilt title on spine and gilt edges. - First and last 2 leaves slightly foxed, here and there little marginal notes by a contemp. hand. Edges partly rubbed. In else fine and clean copy.
