Graesse IV, 626. - Franz, Weltgesch. 1768. - NBG XXXVI, 989. - Only edition of this monumental collection of sources from Italian history, from the Gothic wars up until the year 1500, published by the famous archeologist, historian and librarian L. A. Muratori (1672-1750). "Man weiß, was dieser Mann für die gelehrten historischen Studien Italiens, ja des gebildeten Abendlandes bedeutet. Der ausgezeichnete Mann hat zunächst für sein Vaterland im Gebiete der geschichtlichen Forschung und Produktion aus eigener Kraft alles das geschaffen, wovon wir in Deutschland damals und später vergeblich das eine oder das andere zu Stande zu bringen uns angestrengt haben." [abbr. translation: "We all know of this man's importance for Italy's intellectual historical studies ... (NBG) - The nice maps show the ancient and medieval Italy (54,5 : 76 and 52 : 72,5 cm). - This copy, with the often lacking vol. XXV, published in 1751, as well as two also very rare works added (see below.). - Lacking vol. II/1, and ca. 20 further coppers. Just slightly foxed in places and browned (3 vol. stronger in places), 1 title copper cropped close. Bindings slightly rubbed in places and stained as well as slightly bowed, 2 vols. with dark stains and joints slightly torn. All in all a nice and presumably well-preserved copy, mostly clean print on strong paper. Each title printed in red and black, with small ownership entry by an old hand. Each vol. with engr. armorial bookplate of the Biblioteca di Casate Vecchio.
